Check out the pics below. I'm talking a lot, mainly using my own made-up words, walking with assistance, and growing like crazy! You wouldn't believe how tall I'm getting. I'm going to catch you up with some recent photos Momma took of me in the tub the other day. She put BUBBLES IN!!! They were too cool. But not super tasty, as I thought they would be. Its called Music Together, and it was a lot of fun. We got to clap our hands (well, Mom did this), tap on the floor, play with maracas and some various instruments and dance all over the place. All while listening to some fun music and everyone singing! It was a blast, and now I'll get to do it once a week for the fall!

One of the girls at music class was only a month older than me, but she was crawling all over the place and almost walking, too! I was so jealous, I screamed at the top of my lungs at her. Mom thinks these things might inspire me to start doing the same thing. Not sure about that crawling stuff yet, though. I'm going to take my time. Maybe I'll walk first, who knows?!

After class, Mom made me suffer through a short trip to Trader Joes, then to make it up to me, took me to Red Mango for some fro-yo with fruit. We shared the original flavor with strawberries and mango and it was deeee-lish!

We're looking forward to Joey's birthday party this weekend! I'll get to watch Joey eat his first cake and walk around. Poor Daddy has to work allllll weekend, so we'll miss hanging out with him.

Well, its about time to play, so I've got to be going. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Love,
Lola

The Flirt!

Not sure why my Mom is giving me so much trouble about being a flirt. I've learned some great life skills lately. If I give someone googly eyes, they ooh and awe at me. Mom loves it when I use my flirty eyes on her and Dad loves it, too. Everyone at Maya's loves my new found skills, too.

Oh, like the pic I posted? That's my cuz, Oskar. He's a flirt, too. I'm telling you, people, it works.

Bear with me while I chip away at the pics of my life up to this point. I've been livin' life, but now I'm getting super savvy on the laptop. Hopefully Dad will help get some sweet video clips up, as well.

Now...back to the playground. I need to check in on the crew over there. Things are going really well. We have some nights that are better than others, but really, I just want to hang out, and right now, the only way I can do that at night is to cry a little. Mom and Dad have handled it pretty well so far. We'll see how they hold up for the long run. I've got lots more in me. Mom sings me a few lullabies right now. She says she's going to learn more.

Mom and Dad tell me constantly how cute I am. They especially like it when I have my eyes open. I only show them a few times a day right now...I really like to sleep.

We had our first Pediatric appointment with Dr. Tholany on Monday afternoon. I think I like her pretty well. She said that the hospitals do some sort of rating of your newborn, based on their health and physical things, and the doc said most babies get 8's or 9's and that they never ever see 10s, but they gave me a 10! She also said that newborns usually lose a bit of weight early on, b/c they're waiting for Mom's milk to come in. My Mom's milk came in sometime over the weekend and so now I weigh 7 lbs 11 oz, which means I gained 5 oz in 5 days, which they said is ideal.

I'm sure Mom would like it if I bragged about her a bit (even though this blog is about me). Mom was back at her pre-pregnancy weight by day 3, and is now down another 4 lbs! She's sure the weight loss will slow down a lot now, as Mom gets used to eating more to accommodate me. And she still has a bit of a belly, so she'll have to work that off, but she's pretty proud of how she's doing so far. She told Dad that that means she dropped 20 lbs in 6 days. Of course, I'm over 7 lbs of that, and the rest is probably all water. There was a LOT of water in there. Which reminds me, I should tell you all a little about the birth! I'll leave that for another day, though.

Time for another nap. Mom and I had lots of fun, and Mom ate lots of yummy food from everyone! It was really nice for her to get to spend some time with her friends before I come out and demand all of her attention.

Dad's been out of town this week, which for me, means no big pokes when he spots my foot sticking out through Mom's belly. I have to admit, I miss Dad, and I'll be glad to have him back around.

Today is the 37th week of my existence and I am now fully cooked and ready to come out. Mom still has to wait three weeks for her due date, but if I came out now, everything would be fine. My lungs are fully functioning now. And last week Dr. Jovanovic said that I weighed about 6lbs 11oz., so I will be a healthy baby size (they say I gain about an ounce a day).

Yesterday a bunch of Mom colleagues threw Mom a surprise baby shower, with fun games, yummy cupcakes from Lassen & Hennings and lots of great people! She got some super cute duds for me and a certificate for a prenatal massage at one of those prenatal and postpartum spas. She's pretty excited about that! She'll post pictures of the shower when she gets them!

Well, time for Mom to boot me from the computer so she can do some official business. Times a-tickin' and soon I'll be able to meet you all in person! I can't wait!

By Popular Demand

Mom at 35 weeks (taken Friday, November 7th).

Since so many people have asked Mom to take a picture, here is a pic from last week.

Growing Pains

So this is how big the weekly pregnancy update shows me as being. Mom thinks I'm probably a bit bigger than the average baby, so I might be taking up a tad more space (this shows a baby estimating around 5.25 lbs and Mom thinks I may be closer to 6 lbs). Its getting harder and harder for me to move, and thus, harder and harder for Mom to move, as well. Even strangers are telling Mom how big (or "huge") she is. She's still feeling pretty good, but some of the physical aspects are starting to set in. Her legs fall asleep kind of often and she's getting more and more cramps and Braxton Hicks contractions (the fake kind).

We're only 5 weeks away from my supposed due date and sometimes Mom and Dad think I'm going to pop right out of Mom's belly. Space is tight in here, so I'm definitely maxing out what real estate I have. And when Mom has lunch and dinner, I like to readjust a bit.

The doctor say that I've been in position for a good few weeks now (since the 3D, at least). I've got my head down and my face forward, and that's pretty ideal for birth, so Mom and Dad are pleased about that.

This weekend is my party that Mom's friends Blyth, Abby and Jeanette are throwing. Mom's getting pretty excited to see her friends. For some of them, the next time they'll all see Mom, they may be meeting me, too. :)

Tonight is bowling. Should be fun! These days, things are busy busy busy. Mom and Dad are squeezing in more social events to get in as much fun as they can before there are three of us. I think I might be somewhat of a home body when I'm first out. I hear its kind of a shocking entrance into the world, and I might need some sleep.

Mom has some pictures and hopes to post some of her belly and perhaps some pics of the baby shower, soon, too. Mom and Dad have a couple of pics from our last doctors appointment, but they are pretty similar to the last big set of pics, and now its getting more difficult to take pictures of me while I'm still on the inside.

Well, I'm getting sleepy. I need to enjoy all of the time I can while I'm still in my jacuzzi.

Baby in 3D

Video 1

In this video, you can see my hands up by my face. It was very exciting. I was trying to sleep a little bit, but they nudged me a couple of times, so I moved a bit. Towards the end of one, you can see me smile. Dad gave me a little nudge right then and I reacted with a smile. You can also see me swallow some fluid (it helps me develop my lungs) and you can see my hands up by my face a some at the beginning. The doctor said I'm sleeping on them, and if you look at the pics from last time, you'll see me doing that there, too!

There are also some pictures attached from the session. It was really fun for Mom and Dad and its their only real look at me before I'm born. You can see my face pretty clearly in the pics... the doctor said I have a button nose, full lips, a prominent brow, and a cute little chin.

Hope you all enjoy the videos and pictures! Mom and Dad got my room pretty well set up over the long Columbus Day weekend. They were planning to go out after church on Sunday to get a dresser, and popped into the Brooklyn Flea Market and found an old dresser for $50. A nice white coat and polishing of the handles and they have a fun dresser all full of my clothes and such! Then they decided to keep one of Mom's old shelves, so Dad painted that white, too, and now there's room for everything (at least for now).

Mom was so excited to show off the room and some of my stuff to her friends Blyth and Abby when they came over today to hang out. They were very impressed with the progress of the room.

Well, its time for me to take a little snoozy.

Bye for now!

Baby Face! First Look

Today we had a doctors appointment and Dr. Jovanovic took these great pictures of me. These are Mom and Dad's first 3D shots. The doctor told Mom and Dad that he could tell that I have a square jaw, a prominent brow, and a small nose. See for yourself in the pics above! If you click on it, you can see the pics much bigger. I think that the fluid in the sack is making these pics look a little warped, but you can see the overall shape, and you can see my hands by my face.

Dad thinks I'm going to look like him. Mom said that both Grandpa and Linda told her that the first child or first girl usually look like their Dad. You'll have to wait and see!

At the beginning of the appointment, the nurse put an instrument on Mom's belly to read my heart beat. I kicked and kicked that instrument, but they kept it there for over 5 minutes. I kicked the whole time. They need to know who's boss!

Dr. Jovanovic told Mom and Dad that I'm 3 lbs and 11 ounces right now, and on my way to being about 8 1/2 or 9 lbs when I'm born. Mom was expecting 8 1/2 lbs, but the number 9 sounds kind of high. Its obviously muscle mass from all of this working out I'm doing in here. You should see Mom's tummy move!

Our next appointment is in 4 weeks, and then after that we'll see him every week. He must really like me! We do have a 3D session scheduled in a couple of weeks, so keep your eyes out for a WHOLE BUNCH of photos of me.

28-29 Week Update

So this week I will be 29 weeks p.b. (pre-birth). Mom is now into her third trimester and she's still feeling pretty good. She can feel pretty much everything I do, and Dad likes to feel me moving a lot, too.

Mom had a great trip back to Kansas City. Mom and Grandma and Grandpa all stayed at Aunt Tabitha and Uncle Jess's house, and we got to spend a lot of fun time with the kids and the babies! Grandma and Aunt Tabitha threw Mom and I a beautiful baby shower. Mom was so happy to see all of the family and friends and catch up with everyone. It was especially nice to see Mom's Aunt Danny, Uncle Bud, cousin Michelle and her daughter, Shelby (so grown up!). Its been years since they've seen each other and its great to see them again.

Grandma, Aunt Tabitha, Mom and I got to go to the Paper Source on the Plaza and grab a bite at Saigon 39 where we all got to enjoy some yummy Vietnamese food and fun girl time. We were all happy the weather cleared up for us to have a nice couple of days at the end.

On our last night there, Mom got to see her great friends Brandon and Wendy and their baby Kennedy. She's so cute and sweet and I know that we'll be friends some day, just like my Mom and her Dad are. They all looked great and very happy!

Mom was a little sad to say goodbye to her sister and her parents. It took a couple of days to get back into the swing of things back in NYC, but Mom's now glad to be back at work and getting things prepared around the apartment for my arrival. Mom just found out that a girl she knows delivered 7 weeks early, which freaked her out a bit. I'm pretty comfy in here, so I'm not quite ready for whatever is in store quite yet.

Mom and Dad went to Lenox Hill for a hospital tour on Saturday. They got to see where I'll make my debut, and learned all about the stuff that will happen directly after that event. They both liked the location a lot and the staff were all really nice and excited for us to visit.

Well, Mom needs to get ready for work. We'll post another update soon!

Nursery Paintings

Mom has been working on some nursery paintings. These still need some clean-up, but here are the first two. Apologies for the fuzziness...Mom can't get her camera to focus well on them at this close of a range. Maybe Dad will be able to fix it later.

Mom started with a different idea that she didn't like nearly as much. Mom has sketched ideas for the mobile to go over my crib and the animal shapes will match these paintings. She's pretty excited to get some of these completed, but with her goal, has a long ways to go.

Mom promises to post more once they are complete.

For Sure, For Sure

So, today I leave for my first trip back to Kansas City. Aunt Tabitha and Grandma Eastburn are throwing Mom and me a shower. Mom and I are both very excited to get to spend a little time with family and friends. Dad has to stay behind and work, but we sure will miss him! Dad was trying to get me to move around this morning, but I did all of my moves at about 4:30 a.m., so I was all tuckered out at 7 when he was poking around and talking to me. He was telling Mom and me how much he's going to miss us, too.

Last Friday Mom and Dad took me to see Dr. Jovanovic again. He said that I'm doing great and that I weigh about 2.4 lbs. At the time, I had my head down by Mom's cervix and my feet over my head. Mom and Dad were very impressed with my acrobatics. Then Mom asked if the doctor would make sure that we had my gender right, so Dr. Jovanovic showed Mom and Dad my personal stuff and took a little picture as a joke. We will not be sharing that picture, but we'll just say that Mom and Dad are quite sure now. Ha!

Mom made some Chocolate and Peanut Granola she saw on Nigella Feasts for the family when she returns, and she just finished it last night, so it should be nice and fresh. We tried a little bit and found it quite delicious.

Last weekend Mom also started on the paintings for my room, and she's completed only one so far and one is pretty close to done. She likes them quite a bit and she can't wait to start getting some more going soon!

Dad's friend Matt gave Mom and Dad one of his paintings also, and they really like it. Its yellow and pink and has a robotic sheep on it. Its pretty cool, and Mom just loves robots so she likes it a lot. It was a great gift!

Well, that's it for now. I'll let you know how everything goes back in Kansas City!

Love,
Baby Girl Sumner

Jellyfish, Fish Tacos, and Cream Puffs

Mom and Dad and some of Mom's girlfriends went out to Fire Island again last weekend. While Mom spent some quality time in the water, Dad went around and had a couple of beers with some locals! It was a lot of fun for everyone and it was nice for Dad, since it was his first time out there.

So when Mom and I were swimming, we got stung by a jellyfish! It was pretty minor, and she's thinking that the jellyfish just managed to crash onto Mom when the tide brought in a warm rush of water. We didn't know exactly what it was at the time, as it just felt like burning on Mom's legs, then Kathleen saw the jellyfish in the water right where we were, so that was it! It must have gotten its tentacles wrapped around Mom's lower legs, because the burning was on several spots on the front and back. It burned for about 20 minutes and then it went away. That was kind of exciting for Mom, but it kind of made her nervous to get back into swimming in the afternoon. Kathleen, Mom, and I were in the water and Mom saw bubbles come in with a warm current and Mom was sure there was a jellyfish in there, and sure enough, they saw another jellyfish and continued to get on shore quickly to get out of the jellyfish's territory.

Tonight we get to have some free fish tacos at Pier 1 for a work party from Mom's company. They have free drinks, too, but we won't be partaking in that action right now. I'm pretty excited to get some of those fish tacos, though! I also got some cream puff action this afternoon! What a day!

OMG!

I just found out that my Dad went to a Kenny G concert! Mom read that her uterus is now the size of a soccer ball. A soccer ball! Can you believe that? Everyone (even lots of strangers) inquires about me and what Mom knows about me. Mom tells some people about me being a girl and how excited Dad and she are.

Things have been pretty calm lately. Mom is serving on a Grand Jury in Brooklyn, which is a lot of sitting around in the same chair, the same position, all day long. Its kind of boring for me, but sometimes in the afternoon, I move around a kick a bit to get a little exercise. I especially like kicking Mom in the bladder. Its fun and it gets quite the reaction.

Dad took the picture at the top of Mom's growing belly (thanks to me). This was taken after lunch last Saturday on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This picture is on Lafayette during the Saturday-Car-Free morning thing they are doing right now, to allow a place for people to bike, roller blade, etc freely for a little time in the morning. Its only on one street going up/down town and seems to be quite the hit. this is at the end when they are closing it down and getting ready to allow for traffic.

After this picture was taken, we all went to Dick Blick to pick out some canvases for my room. Mom is planning to paint pictures for me and any future siblings I might have.

Dad was pretty excited about getting my room ready, so they chose colors and went to Benjamin Moore and picked up some "organic" paint colors for my room. Mom took a picture of Dad painting the room, so she's posting that, too. They chose these two greens that they liked a lot. Mom acted as foreman and bossed Dad around all day about hitting the light spots. He was really appreciative of all of her help (yeah, right).

Mom has been experiencing a lot of new things now that people can tell she's pregnant. People tell her all of the time what is best for pregnancy and babies, what the best products are, and all kinds of mostly unnecessary and unwarranted advice. Some of it is helpful, but its pretty amazing how people really want to push their ways onto others. If you know my Mom, you probably know how much this annoys her. And when you know me eventually, you'll know that I'm not the same as all of these random peoples' babies. I'll be funkier, hipper, more fun, and so much cooler (and smarter, thanks to these prenatal vitamins). Mom's trying to stay positive and take it as everyone just trying to help any way they know how.

Since Mom got called to Jury Duty, she has to be gone from work for two whole weeks. It kind of worried her at first, even though she knew there was nothing she could do about it. If she got out of it this time, it would be guaranteed to be back sooner than later, so she assumed it was best that she just do it now. Once you get drawn for Grand Jury Duty, you stay in that pool until you serve. And Grand Jury runs for either two weeks, four weeks, three months, or six months. So Mom really lucked out by getting two weeks. Plus, now she's done for 8-10 years (with Petit Jury, you're only guaranteed 3-4 years off). On a Grand Jury, you don't decide guilt or innocence, you decide whether to indict or dismiss charges against someone. So you hear multiple cases over your time on the jury. Last week alone, the Grand Jury that Mom's on, heard at least 18 cases. Some aren't that big of a deal (drug charges, larceny, robbery), but some are pretty tough to take (attempted murder, rape of a child, etc). So that being said, Mom will be very happy when its time to get back to work.

So Mom has chosen an old associate to take over for her while she's on maternity, and he's helping with design projects now while she's on jury duty. It turns out this is pretty great to get him situated and acquainted with Mom's colleagues. He's doing a fantastic job and everyone seems to like him quite a bit. Its really helped Mom with less stress during jury duty.

Mom and Dad are really excited about me and seeing all of my progress throughout the pregnancy. Dad feels me moving a lot and sometimes I do some real tricks when he's touching Mom's belly. He's being such a sport. Mom is having a hard time getting socks and shoes on lately, so Dad ties her shoes for her, when she needs help.

Well, time for dinner!

Day Cares and Mommy Lunch

Mom is going to check out a couple of day cares. Mom is pretty nervous (aka freaked out) by the notion now, so guess how she'll feel when the time comes. It will be interesting to see how things work out. Mom's so choosy, that I'm sure she'll be looking for months before she's happy.

Mom and some of her co-workers all went to lunch yesterday and Mom got to listen to some stories from people who's babies have been born already. Mom had a great time hearing about other birth and pregnancy experiences. And its always nice for Mom to have people to talk to who are going through the same thing.

Hope you're all enjoying the blog. Dad needs to take a picture of the impact I'm having on Mom's body, so perhaps we'll put some new pics up soon. Mom's belly is starting to really stick out now.

Well, I'm all tuckered out and I'm willing Mom to head into bed, so its nighty-night for these girls. We'll talk again soon.

Baby Shower and Stuff

So on Saturday Mom woke up and kind of flipped out a bit. She realized that on our next trip back to Kansas City in September is when Aunt Tabitha is throwing us a big party where people give us lots of presents all for me. And while I find this SO EXCITING, Mom had a scary realization that she really had to figure some stuff out. So Mom and Dad went to research what is best for me at Buy Buy Baby. Mom and Dad are pretty good on a lot of things, and Mom is really just excited to see a bunch of her friends and family when she's there. But a list does exist for things they'll need for me so Mom is going to list her wish list, or "registry" here, rather than registering at one store. Mainly because she hasn't found one store who has all of her preferences. Everything is available online and Mom has listed at least one online location. Mom will add more as more comes up. Mom and Dad have registered at BuyBuyBaby.com, LandofNod.com, and BabyEarth has all of our bottles and some sheets for the crib.

Diapers: Everyone tells me diapers.com. is the way to go, so lets go with that.

21 Weeks

Mom grabbed this picture off of babycenter.com. This is about what we look like this week. I'm around 10.5" long from head to toe this week.

This week Dad got to feel me kicking and moving around. Mom's been feeling me move around for a little bit now, which is pretty fun for her. Sometimes I move around a bunch and sometimes I just kick a couple of times...just in case Mom forgot about me for a sec.

Mom's feeling great and has been swimming at the Y lately. She gets up early in the morning does laps for about an hour. Its pretty fun for both of us. We tried water aerobics, but it was all old ladies and the workout was pretty mild, so Mom has a lot more fun doing her own thing. Last night, Mom's friend Blyth asked her to come hang out at their kickball practice, and Mom ended up pitching. She had lots of fun, and it made her wish she had been able to play over the summer!

Dad's been busy with work on a feature film all month; tomorrow is the last day on that job and then its on to others. Today he got someone to cover for him so that he could work on a music video for the Brazilian Girls. Mom and Dad like them pretty well, so it will be fun to see how it turned out.

I'm A Girl!

We had our biggest photo session to date this morning! It was very exciting. Mom and Dad went to Lenox Hill and got to see pictures of every part of me. It started with lots of pictures of my spine, then they moved on to my brain and skull, and then moved all over. They saw all four chambers of my heart, the blood running through the umbilical cord and my kidneys and all over. They looked at my bottom, too, and found out that I'm a girl. Seems that this is pretty exciting news for Mom and Dad!

I started to get pretty relaxed after a little while, and the tech lady kept taking pictures, and I guess she needed some hard-to-get pics, so she started prodding me with the instrument to make me move. I moved a little bit, but I was pretty comfy, so I just chilled out again. She still got her pics, so no worries!

All-in-all, a very fun appointment! Tomorrow morning, Mom will go see her regular doctor in the morning, and he will talk to her more about what they saw today. We're at the 20 week mark this week, so I'm about half-way cooked.

Well, I guess Mom's getting pretty sleepy, so I need to go. Hope you enjoy the pictures (see more below)! There's one that shows definitive evidence that I am, indeed, a girl, but Mom has decided that its too private to share here, so you'll just have to take my word for it. And Dad had better be kidding about showing this to my future dates. Not going to happen.

Well, drop me a line if you get a chance! I love seeing comments on the blog! Its easy, and think of it this way...I'm going to be on here for a while, so the sooner you learn to comment on my blog, the sooner I'll learn to say your name out loud.

Pictures! At least that's what Mom is thinking (perhaps a delusion), since she stepped on the scale this morning and for the first time since my inception, the number had gone up, rather than down. She can still pat herself on the back for making it 19 weeks before the weight started coming on, but she can kiss that good-bye now. That might explain why most shirts are starting to look kind of weird on her.

Dad's been out of town on business on-and-off for about two weeks and comes back tonight. I'm excited to have him back, and I think Mom might be, too. I know he's been thinking about me a lot and he called Mom this morning to ensure that he's off for my next photo session next week.

This week, I'm a tomato

So this week I turn into a big, ripe, heirloom tomato. They have a size chart on babycenter.com and Mom has been checking. I'm pretty tough (from the breakdancing), so I usually come up a little bigger than what those charts say, but next week is a banana, so I'm going to revel in my tomatoness.

Next week, Mom and Dad get to see every little bit of me. The doctors are calling it a fetal anatomy scan. They look at my spine, my face, and, I'm assuming, my little bottom. So I may not be able to keep this little secret of mine very much longer. Mom's excited (er...hopeful) to find out so that she can start creating pictures for my bed and walls once I cross over.

I had a great time hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa. We went to a big baseball on the 4th of July (Yankees vs Red Sox), and everyone had a great time (especially since the Yankees lost). I got my first second-hand taste of a Nathan's hot dog, some ball park nachos and popcorn. Then Dad had to go to work and Mom hung out with Grandma and Grandpa for the rest of the weekend. I think we all had a good time. I wore them all out (sissies)...

Now Mom and Dad are spending a little time looking at bigger apartments to prepare for my arrival.

Well, that's pretty much all of the excitement for now. Next week, I'm sure you can expect to see a few pictures of me. I'll try to smile for the cameras.
